Industrialization has brought about an unprecedented improvement in the standard of living for humanity, but it has also caused serious environmental problems such as global warming, the destruction of the ozone layer, acid rain, the emission of dioxins and other endocrine disruptors, and soil contamination in industrialized sites. Moreover, mass consumerism is causing the depletion of material and energy resources, and the production of a vast amount of wastes. The construction of a sustainable society with minimal negative impact on the environment is the focus of this division. Topics such as the promotion of material and energy recycling; waste management; the development of material and energy efficient technologies; and the development of alternate ggreen technologiesh will be covered. |  |
