Research Topics
We have studied effective and efficient methodologies for reliability-based analysis and demonstrated their applicability to civil engineering practice. We have also studied mechanical behavior of gematerials through experimental apprach.
Reliability-based anaysis for geotechnical structures
In geotechncial designs, several types of uncertainties are needed to be considered because they can strongly impact on structural safety. In this study, we have developed reliability-based design methods and applied to geotechncial design practice. |

Inverse analysis in civil engineering: Geophysical tomography
Reconstructing images of grounds through geophysical tomography is a typical inverse problem. In civil engineering practice, available observation data are very limited, and the inverse problems tend to be "underdetermined (ill-posed) problems." We have developed inverse analysis methods designed to solve underdetermined problems based on the methodologies in statistical mathematics and evaluated their performances. |

Numerical simulation for large deformation behavior of geomaterials
We have developed numerical methods for simulating large deformation and failure behavior of geomaterials based on discrete particle methods. |
