Although flood damage decreased by the flood control of dams, a degradation of low water channels, and an aggradation of sand bars became noticeable in many rivers in Japan. Consequently, stable riparian forest areas rapidly expanded on the bars. Then overgrowth of trees on the bars caused problems of a decrease of flood capacity and a deterioration of river environment. This study aims to establish a high accuracy numerical model of riverbed dynamics and vegetation dynamics for the strategic river management.
