Proposition of Systematic River Bed Control Method using Simulation Model of Vegetation Dynamic(Division of Social Engineering and Environmental Management)

◆Grant of River Foundation, Japan
◆Leader: Prof. MAENO Shiro
◆Period: 2013-2015

The number of active gravel bars on the Asahi River in Okayama Prefecture (located in western Japan) has continuously decreased over the last 20 years, whereas stable riparian forest areas have rapidly expanded on river bars during the same period. The new forest not only reduces the flood capacity, but also degrades the river ecosystem. Therefore, it is very important to remove and control the riparian forest in the river. This stucy aims to establish an simulation model of vegetation dynamics using two-dimensional flood flow analysis for efficient river bed management.
